Sara Davis
If you’ve ever felt like…
a meandering but purposeful bumblebee,
a force-of-nature wild mustang,
an undeterred bloodhound, hyperfocused on the trail of a scent, oblivious of all stimuli around you,
a delighted, playful dolphin seamlessly moving between the two contradictory worlds of air and water, effortlessly enjoying the benefits of both,
a gravity-defying eagle, able to posture itself to both flow with the currents of its environment and brace against them to navigate toward its intended end,
a curious, agile monkey who seems to have an unfair advantage in the command and appropriation of its body to move through its world, and meet its needs to eat, sleep, connect, play and thrive,
a graceful, but powerful whale, whose presence is undeniable yet unpretentious,
an enigmatic tiger whose defining feature enables it to both blend in undetected and stand out with striking individualism and identity,
a sloth who can’t move fast to save its ass on those low-capacity days,
an elephant, capable of decimation but using its strength to care for, protect, nurture and frolic with those in its domain, only unleashing its potential of destruction to preserve the safety and well-being of those to whom it is selflessly devoted,
a platypus - the ultimate contradiction; exhibiting features of multiple species, impossible to place neatly in a box with a label,
all in one lifetime (. . . year? . . . month? . . . day?), I see you.
If . . .
. . . you find it difficult to make long-term plans and set goals because when you go to bed at night you can’t even predict which part of you will be crying out for expression or fulfillment when you wake up the next morning, I hear you.
. . . the needs of your mind, body and nervous system defy the conventions of our cultural structures and norms, if you don’t fit in, nay, can’t fit in, I understand.
. . . you’re looking for a safe place where you can unmask, reveal your true self, where you will be welcomed, and valued and will belong, so you can spill out (or carefully unpack) the contents of your Mary Poppins-carpet-bag-mind, I’m here.
I help gifted and otherwise neurodiverse people tease out the tangled, interconnected complexity of their mind, nervous system and body to understand what’s there and what they need.
A Little More about Me . . .
In addition to being gifted and otherwise neurodiverse counselor and coach, I am a multipotentialite, having worn numerous hats over the years such as educator, administrator, curriculum writer, real estate investor, bookkeeper, youth leader, home education co-op founder, who also has enjoyed singing, gardening, animal tending, cycling, kayaking, traveling, knitting, crocheting, painting, collecting, rummaging, walking, taking in nature, and learning, learning, learning.
My interests include not only the areas of giftedness, neurodiversity (ADHD, autism, AuDHD, PDA, overexcitabilites, etc.), personality type, temperament theory and the Enneagram, but also other recent deep dives such as: educational philosophy and the history of education in America, the industrial food system, garden design, hobby farming, watercolor painting., color theory. and the lives of people such as Julia Child, Judith Jones, Alice Waters, Mother Cabrini, Albert Einstein, Ada Byron Lovelace, packhorse librarians, Peter Mark Roget, Sophie Germain, Mr. Rogers. Paul Erdos, Jeanne Power and more.
I home educate my son and aim to be (as Mr. Rogers said), “a neighborhood expression of care” to the kids in our community.
I am a licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor.
